Elvia Shope

June 28, 1961 — February 3, 2026

We are saddened to announce the passing of Elvia Shope, 64. She gained her wings to join her savior, Jesus Christ on 02/03/2026. Elvia was born on 06/28/1961 in San Benito, TX to Manuel Salazar and Margarita Garza-Huerta. She was well known in her neighborhood for her rambunctious energy and free-spiritedness at an early age. Our lovely mother was an extremely loyal, strong, confident, protective and generous soul. She never arrived anywhere empty-handed and would go out of her way to ensure her loved ones felt appreciated and cared for, especially in their times of need. She was an exceptionally hard working and dedicated nurse and spent her career serving others mainly at the Fort Irwin Army Base Weed Army Community Hospital and concluded her career at the University Hospital Transplant Unit in San Antonio, TX.

Elvia enjoyed traveling, shopping, cooking and spending time with her loved ones. She was always down for an adventure and was eager to share her recommendations for wherever you may be traveling to as she had most likely been there. She also loved to spend hours on the phone as many of her loved ones can attest to, she was very easy to talk to, gave great advice and was there for you to just listen if needed. She was also quick to share her passion for her love of K-Pop dramas and her latest musical finds.

Our mom was known for being a free spirit, doing things her way, following her own path and playing by her own rules. She also encouraged others to not only do the same but to have the guts and confidence to forge ahead and not be bound by the opinions of others to pursue their passions. She lived her life to the fullest and would not let anyone else tell her otherwise. Her life was filled with love, joy, tears, humor, selflessness and generosity. She truly was a force of nature and left an impression on anyone she crossed paths with. We were all truly blessed to know that we could always count on her to be there for you whenever needed. While her family and friends are mourning the loss of Elvia, we take comfort knowing she is at peace and reunited with her loved ones up in heaven.

Elvia is preceded in death by her mother and father and her siblings; Inocencio “Chencho” Huerta, Juan Josē “Cani” Huerta, Baldemar “Freddy Fender” Huerta, Manuel “Mel” Garza-Salazar and Isidro “Chirin” Huerta.

Elvia is survived by her daughters; Bianca Aparicio, Sherrie Shope-Corea (Josē), Shauna Shope and last but not least, her favorite daughter- Willow 🐾.She is also survived by her grandchildren; Josē Corea, Jaykob Corea (Katherine), Jeremiah Shope, Brooklyn Williams and Bailey Williams; her great-grandchild; James Oliver Corea and her siblings; Sylvia Salazar, Maria Minerva Cantū, Josē Luis Mendez and their families.
